Fresh XP SP3 Install Generates 0x8024D001

Asked by JasonTeagle on 08/16/2013 at 7:34 AM

Please note that I'm trying to install this on Oracle's VirtualBox, so although I expect it to appear to be a perfectly normal PC as far as XP is concerned, there are no guarantees.

When I try to go to Windows Update manually (through the web page, as XP did it), it gives me error code Fresh XP SP3 Install Generates 0x8024D001.

Please note that I have installed IE8, and the automatic version of Windows Update has installed an XP update relating to the package installer (but I got the error code at all points, before and after each of those changes).

Can anyone help me resolve this so I can bring this machine up to date? It's not the end of the world if I can't as it's mostly for some legacy stuff, but any help would be appreciated.

(Where can I find the log file for Windows update's attempts?)

I'm getting the same thing on a fresh install using a disk/laptop I've used 10+ times this week, my guess is it's something on their end. Let's hope.

Yeah, I've been messing with this for days and I have the same kind of fresh install, SP3, VirtualBox setup as listed here. Even after running Caruko's solution, I'm still getting the same Error Number: 0x8024D001 error that Daniel's getting.

I found out all these answers myself, but now i am stuck.
Cause even after manually installing version 3.x of the updater, it still won't wotk.
Even not when clearing updatecache or manually running wuauclt /detectnow, it wont work.
