Delta relaunches Atlanta-Shanghai flights
With a lion dance on Concourse F of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Delta Air Lines on Friday welcomed passengers onto the first flight of its relaunched route from Atlanta to Shanghai.Taipei to Shanghai flights
It’s the third time Atlanta-based Delta has tried the route, after previous attempts in 2008 and 2010 failed to attract enough passengers.
This time, Delta hopes a close partnership with China Eastern enabling connections in Shanghai to 70 other destinations in China will attract more passengers and make the route viable.
To continue job growth, “it’s imperative that we have direct flights and direct access from Atlanta Hartsfield to the globe,” said Chris Riley, Gov. Nathan Deal’s chief of staff.
With the new flights, “we look forward to receiving many more Chinese visitors, and we’re working very hard to make sure you all feel welcomed in our city,” said Marva Lewis, chief of staff for Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms.
Hartsfield-Jackson has launched a mini-site on Chinese messaging and social media app WeChat, she said.
Passenger Limei Zhou, who is from Shanghai and now lives in Baltimore, said she travel to Shanghai every six months or so to visit her parents.
“I’d rather fly from Baltimore to here [Atlanta">, then to China,” Zhou said, instead of connecting in Detroit as she has in the past. Detroit “always feels cold and unpredictable,” she said.
