error code: 0x80073b01 and MS Essentials disabled

Asked by DawnGilman on 10/03/2012 at 5:56 PM

I noticed that my MS Essentials was turned off. I did not do this.  When I tried to turn it on I got the error code: 0x80073b01.  I have tried to download many different types of antivirus since this but each time my computer tells me they have a virus in them and won't let me do this.  I have also tried to follow various tips I found online and nothing has helped.

Do I have a virus or could some other easy fix?

I have windows 7 - 64 bit operating system.

Not only is MS essentials disabled, but I cannot uninstall it or reload MS essentials, since there is already an MS essentials on the hard drive. Tried "restore," but that does not help. I also have McAfee and wonder if that may be interferring?

I think you have the virus I have. It is called "System care antivirus". It sucks. Not an easy fix

Download Hitmanpro-x64. you don't have to buy the software, it has a 30 day try out. Let it scan your computer. It will identify the problem and ask if you want it repaired. I did and it worked. Now I'm going to buy the full copy It really works. Best I've ever found!
